While the facilities at Lakeshore for the treatment and housing of the injured military are exceptional, there is currently no housing on the campus for the family members who accompany their injured loved ones in order to provide the emotional and physical support that is so important to the overall growth and success of the participants. The ten (10) residential units that will be constructed as part of Operation Lakeshore will provide such housing with a private, home-like atmosphere, allowing the family members and the injured veteran to collectively gain confidence as to what is still physically possible, and to bond with the other injured military members and their families experiencing the same or similar physical challenges. As a result, both the injured veteran and their family members realize that the injury, regardless of the severity, is not as limiting as it was thought to be before they came as a family to Lakeshore.
The Cottages of Lakeshore will include two three-bedroom cottages and four one-bedroom duplexes. There will also be outdoor gathering places including a flag pole, an outdoor arbor with fireplace, a fountain with a seating area and an accessible playground. The Cottages will also be LEED certified.
